Documentary Analysis
Documentary Style
My documentary is a mix between an interactive documentary because I am more or less a character in my documentry as well as the director and there is also intercation between me and the interviewees. it is also an expository documentary because my comentary over what is happening on screen informs the audience of information that they would not actually know without the voicover. For example how old snappy is.
Reason for Topic
I chose this topic because it it is something quite close to me because he is my pet, i take care of him and I thought it would be intriguing for people who do not know much about the subjectof keeping terrapins or other types of reptile.
Cinematography
My documentary has varying camera work throughout. When i did the self interview i made sure that my eyes where a third of the way up the camera(following the rule of thirds rule) however when doing the self interview i made sure i wasnt in the middle of the camera. i did this because it adds a bit more motion to the sef interview because the audience has more to look at than just me in the middle of the shot. i also used lots of low camera shots of snappy walking along the grass. these are some of my favourite shots because they are quite different and also it allows the audience to get onto a more personal level with snappy.
Sound
I chose to have a soundtrack for my documentary as i wanted there to be a quirky undertone to it. I wanted the music to be comical so that it would keep up the pace of the documentary and also fit in with its fun and quirky style.
Use of editing
The editing in my documentary is mainly used as a tool to cover up the cuts during my self interview and also the interview with the chameleon owner. i also use some L cuts in my documentary to make the documentary have a more flowing and fluid nature. also i purposely draw out the cuts to keep up with its comeidic style.
Mise en scene
I think that the mise en scene of my documentary is one of the best things about it. i have a lot of outside shots which give the documentary a bright and happy feel. also in my self interview i made sure that snappy was in the background so the audience knew that snappy was the main star. Also the picture of the Beatles in the background makes it look like i ts shot in a real family enviroment and adds to the friendly feel.
Happiness with the final product
My happiness with the final product is in the middle. i thought that the part with the self interview and filming snappy was some of my best work in this course as also my peers seemed to really enjoy this part of the documentary. However i am extremely disapointed with the interview about the chameleon, the interview was slow and the use of camera and mise en scene was poor on my account. But i will improve this
