Documentary Research: Individual Idea
Ideas:
The disappearance of Hopton beach. (This will be a interactive documentary).
terrapin documentary. (This will be an expository/interactive documentary).
Chosen Idea
I have decided to do the terrapin documentary because I thought it was a very unique subject which hasn't particularly been explored in a documentary in previous years. I have a pet terrapin which makes this documentary ideal because it is something close to me and it will be convenient to film. it will be an expository documentary. There will be an authoritative voice over(most likely me). However it will be quite interactive as well as i will be asking questions to members of my household about what they think of the terrapin. This documentary will fall under two genres; Infotainment, because i will be giving information about him and terrapins in general. then it will also be special interest because it is one of my interests and I am hoping that it is humorous and will make the audience happy.
Target audience
In terms of target audience mine would be any age as it is quite a wide subject matter that can be understood by audiences of all ages.
Aims:
The aim of my documentary is to show people what terrapins actually are because not many people have even heard what a terrapin is let alone ever owned one. what i hope to achieve is for people to learn about terrapins and what it is like to own one.
Location
The location I will be filming at is in my house and in my back garden.
Production
I will not need any more members of the production other than myself for this production.
Questions
To members of my household:
what do you think of snappy?
How old do you think he will live to?
Did you know what a terrapin was before we bought snappy?
The questions will vary with each person i ask.
Equipment
In terms of equipment I will be needing a tripod and a camera, i may be able to borrow this off of my brother who i think has a HD camera i can use. This will be a lot easier than having to get the camera out of AV every time I need to film which will ave time and effort.
Budget
The budget for my documentary will be very low
UPDATE: after discussion with my teacher......
Because of where it is on the schedules IE. three minutes to eight on Channel Four i have to appeal to a wide demographic. It wont be enough to talk about terrapins but it will also need personalities who have strange pets. a friend of mine has a bearded dragon, i may be able to interview him.
