Research: 3 Minute wonder analysis

A 3 minute wonder is a short documentary that is shown on channel 4 and are the work of 'first time directors'. It allows first time directors to air their work to a large audience which can be a good step into the UK film industry.

3 minute wonder- 'Last Supper'

One of the 3 minute wonders i chose was the one title 'The last supper'. I found it very interesting and hard hitting. even though it was a man talking for three minutes straight I was captivated and listened to every word the man had to say. This is an observational documentary because there is no interaction between the filmmaker and the person. The filmmaker just sits back and takes a 'fly on the wall' approach.

3 minute wonder - Three Ball Equilibrium Tank'

The second 3 minute wonder documentary i enjoyed was the one called 'Three ball total equilibrium tank.' I enjoyed this because i thought it was funny to see what art students thought about 'modern art' and see that the majority of them thought, compared to what they where doing at school/college it was 'a load of bollocks'. the documentary format for this 3 minute wonder is definitely interactive as the filmmakers presence is evident as the audience can hear the film maker asking the questions. also there are arguments evident throughout as to whether the basketball equilibrium is art.

3 minute wonder - 'King of Laughter'

The documentary above is called 'King of Laughter' This is the 3 minute wonder documentary I enjoyed the most because of the subject matter and the 'character' in the documentary, its very fun to watch. I also really liked  the face cam what they used to follow the man around because to me it made it feel like i actually knew this man and I was accompanying him around Warsall. In terms of documentary format this is a mix of observational and performative. It is observational because the film maker is taking a step back and doesn't get involved with the people on screen. it is performative because it has a soundtrack and exaggerated camera angels(the face cam for example) which submerges the viewer into the diegesis. You can also argue that it is an expository documentary.

  1. Good proposal. Market research at the end could be a little more in-depth...
