Evaluatution

Mise en scene: The whole continuity sequence is set in an enclosed area to help the tension of things. There are two men meeting and making a deal of some sort. The main prop in the sequence is the wallet because it is the package that changes hands.

Lighting: All of the lighting in the sequence is ambient lighting as it was all filmed outside.

Low camera angles: The first low camera angle is when the two men meet for the first time, this was done to show the two men both have equal power at this point in the sequence. However the camera angle is too far to the left which takes the audience away from the point of interest.

The second low angle is filmed after the deal has taken place. I think this second power shot is far better than the first two. this second power shot was done to show that the man on the left was now the person who is the most powerful in the situation.

Establishing shot: The first establishing shot is when the two characters are walking up to eachother. this is an important shot because it shows the location of the characters.

Re-establishing shot: This is the re-establishing shot, it is important because it shows that the characters have not changed location or position.

Mid shot: This is a mid shot. This was important because we needed to see what the character was doing and what his facial expressions where.

Fade: There is a fade in at the start of the sequence as we couldnt just have the start of the sequence cutting in out of nowhere, it wouldn't look good and look unprofessional.

Shot, reverse shot: we used these shots to
how the two characters are communicating. I think this was done quite well, however the shot below is too far to the left of the character which takes interest away from him.

POV Shot: This is our first POV shot, I think this was done rather well although there was a massive continuity glitch. In the scen before the walet was in  the right hand and in the scene after t was in the left hand

Eye line match: This is our eye line match. i think it is god because we dont ctually see what he character is lookin at. we wanted to put this on the end of the sequence to leave the ending a mystery so that the audience want to know what he is looking at.

Extreme close up: The shot above is also an extreme close up.

Match on action shot: Our match on action shot was of the character on the right taking the wallet from his jacket. i think that this could have been done better. i think tha the match on actin should of been the character undoing his jacket instead, there is a slight continuiy glitch there aswell. his left hand is hlding his jacket open in one shot, then it appears next to his size in the next shot.

The 180 degree rule: Throughout the sequence we did not break the 180 degree rule.

Camera movement: Our camera movement was when the character on the right was removing the wallet from his hoodie this camera movement could have been a it smoother however the stiffness of the ovemen helps create an element of shock as he remves the wallet from his jacket.

Summary: I have enjoyed the first three weeks in creative media: television and film. the thing i enjoyed leaning the most was learning about different camera angles and shots. my overall favourite part however was definately the actual filming of the continuity sequence.

  1. James,

This is a really nice first post which demonstrates a solid understanding of the terminology we've covered. It is concise and accurate. There is some room for you to define the terms before you apply them to your own video.

    Really good start James,
